Evolution towards peak performance
This PSI Porsche 996 GT2-R was the next car to be produced featuring all the essential characteristics of the #PSI004# development car in the winter of 2004. PSI Motorsport achieved a level of performance that made the 996 GT2-R a serious championship contender, no matter what race series it was competing in.
The car described here was built specifically for the 2005 BELCAR season. The two drivers were PSI Motorsport's regular driver Markus Palttala together with long-standing loyal customer Leo van Sande. The team were consistently among the fastest in the BELCAR, with Markus Palttala achieving pole position in several races and finishing on the winners' podium together with van Sande.
Further wind tunnel tests in the course of the 2005 season led to aerodynamic changes to the front of the car, which were ultimately intended to generate significantly more downforce on the front axle of the car.
Thanks to the modified front end and in combination with changes to the suspension elements of the 2004 GT3-RS and modified damper characteristics on the MOTON shock absorbers, the PSI 996 GT2-R race cars were now seen as the car to beat in the national GT championships.
Personalities such as the Almeras brothers, Michel Nourry, Marcel Tarres and Marc Sourd are just a few of the names that PSI Motorsport still remembers fondly when reflecting on the international customer base that the team built up.
The car is now owned by an Italian customer. It is waiting to be completely rebuilt and then entered in events such as Peter Auto, Le Mans Classics and other historic racing series.
