The end of an era
The last car to end the successful era of the Porsche 996 GT2-R at PSI Motorsport was built in 2005. It represented the pinnacle of the model's development and was sold to Martin Bartek of Switzerland.
Successful operation
The car was successfully entered in Club Europa and international track days under the guidance of our good friends Patricia and Franco from Garage Moderne Racing in Geneva.
The two of them played a major role in helping to launch the revival of PSI Motorsport Classics.
The PSI 996 GT2-R remained true to the technical specifications of the FIA/GT regulations and was built and entered as a genuine Porsche PSI 996 GT2-R.
Onward sale and current owner
The car was later sold by Matech Racing to the Edmond Rothschild Group, which still owns it today.
New challenges
In late autumn 2006, PSI Motorsport was commissioned to build and homologate the legendary FORD GT40 for the 2007 FIA European Championship.
The team, led by Christian Schumacher, achieved pole position at their very first race in Silverstone. The first podium finishes and the first overall victory with the new car followed at the championship's second event in Romania.
International recognition and co-operation
This success led to an invitation from Ford US to Detroit, where a formal partnership between the parties was agreed and established. FORD produced a new series of 45 Ford GT chassis exclusively for the European racing series, and also launched a collaboration with Roush Yates (FORD's engine builder for NASCAR, etc.). A string of major successes in the GT3 European Championship and later in the GT1 World Championship bore witness to the successful collaboration from 2008 onwards.
Continuation by FORD US
In 2016, FORD US, in cooperation with Canada-based Multimatic, took over the FORD GT racing series and, 50 years after the legendary GT40 victories at Le Mans, again achieved overall victory in the GT class at the 2006 24 Hours of Le Mans
PSI Motorsport's vision of the future
From 2009, PSI Motorsport dedicated itself to developing engines that used alternative fuels and drive technologies. These innovations are now being incorporated into the design of a modern GT car for both the race track and the road.
In addition to the revival of the PSI Porsche 996 GT2-R in historic racing, PSI Motorsport Classics is currently developing a car of this unique type and design that will be launched in 2025.
It will also feature unprecedented engineering and dynamic performance, in addition to all the attributes required and specified for sustainability and environmental protection.
It will be powered – how else could it be – by a legendary Mezger engine (PSI Motorsport Classics workbench reworked and optimised unit = completely new engine). It will take the to a level never that would certainly allow the erstwhile genius and inventor of this legendary engine concept – unique in automotive annals – to look back on this (his) innovation with pride and satisfaction.
PSI Motorsport Classics is fortunate to have inherited the craftsmanship and engineering skills of Hans Mezger and, as of today, to be able to carry them forward into the future.
The revised version will continue to delight the many fans of this fabulous engine concept around the world and will be continued.
