The car's development

PSI Motorsport did a remarkable job of developing the Porsche 996 GT2-R: PSI Motorsport built the first Porsche 997 GT2-R for the 2005 Belcar season, coinciding with the model change to the 997, which mainly related to the car body parts.

In spite of the changes to its exterior, the 996 GT2-R retained the same proven twin-turbo drive concept. The 2005 Belcar season was successfully contested by drivers Fred Bouvy and Jos Menten in the Red Bull colours.

Team expansion and new objectives

Jos Menten Jr. , a highly talented Dutch driver, joined PSI Motorsport during the 2004 winter break. The chemistry between the team and the Menten family was excellent right from the start, and together they set themselves the ambitious goal of winning the BELCAR 2005 title and a place on the winners' podium at the 24 Hours of Spa at Spa-Francorchamps.

Successes and challenges

Jos Menten quickly mastered the PSI 996 GT2-R (Look 997) and was able to exploit the full potential of the GT race car. The Bouvy-Menten team dominated the 2005 season, despite a major setback in the first championship race at Zolder.

Particular highlights were the victory at Brands Hatch, the Zolder 24 Hours, which they led until shortly before the end, and the last championship race of the season at Zolder, which a faulty component brought to a premature end shortly before the close.

Realignment and customer expansion

Despite the successes, PSI Motorsport realised that the time had come for a fresh start with a different car. After almost 6 highly successful years, the era of the PSI 996 GT2-R was slowly coming to an end. During this time, the cars had earned an honourable reputation internationally.

Future and service offering

Today, the car is one of a select group of vehicles from PSI Motorsport Classics and is expected to be offered for sale from the middle of the 2025 season for historic racing series such as Peter Auto or Le Mans Classics.

PSI Motorsport Classics has established itself as a competent partner that has ensured the supply of spare parts for these vehicles over the last 18 months, thereby safeguarding long-term planning for historic racing championships.
