PSI Motorsport Classics is dedicated to recreating this classic race car with the utmost precision and passion, capturing over 25 years of history in the materials and engineering. It is often necessary to manufacture parts that are rare or no longer available in-house and in accordance with the homologation specifications at the time.

It normally takes 8 months to restore a PSI 996 GT2-R. Every detail is meticulously renewed, from the bodyshell to the engine, transmission and electronics.

The end result is a race car that is ready to show what it can do on the historic race tracks of the world and to test the limits of physics.

The Mezger motor: A success story

The legendary 6-cylinder turbo-charged boxer engine, developed by Hans Mezger, is the beating heart of the PSI 996 GT2-R.

It was the first water-cooled engine and marked a milestone in Porsche's history. An advanced version of the Mezger unit was used in both the 996 Turbo/GT2 and the Porsche 996 GT3, which enjoyed success in the Porsche Supercup.

The former air-cooled two-valve concept, developed under the leadership of Hans Mezger, has now been redesigned as a water-cooled four-valve design for the road in response to the ever stricter requirements of emissions regulations.
